Gillette NASCAR
Thirty years ago, no one involved in racing or imagined or predicted the demise of Petty Enterprises. Lee Petty built the boat has been sailing since the start of href = "http://www.nascapper.com/"> NASCAR. Lee Petty won three championships and was arguably the first true superstar NASCAR. His son, Richard arrived and entered his name for the entire log of records required books.Countless NASCAR Richard Petty, widely known as "The King" can not be broken.
Richard Petty won 200 races and seven championships, and that not even the tip of the iceberg of what he has accomplished as a driver and owner. Except for a couple of years in the mid-1980s, Richard Petty's entire career was devoted to the organization his father built. Petty Enterprises' rise from early 1950 to late 1970 could have been even greater than Hendrick Motorsports and Roush Fenway Racing in the 2000s.
The third driver Kyle Petty generation emerged in the late 1970s, as the teenager was his first start in the Cup NASCAR more long and what was then the fastest installation, Talladega. However, unlike his father and his grandfather, Kyle won his first race, while driving of a person other than Petty Enterprises. His first victory came nearly eight years after its debut, and was in Richmond with Wood Brothers, a team that gave the small fits over the years 1960 and 1970.
After his four years with the Wood Brothers, Kyle Petty joined Operation Felix Sabates property in 1988, where he enjoyed the most success. In fact, six of eight races with Kyle wins came while driving for Felix Sabates. Petty left Sabates after the 1996 season to return to the family business and has not won since. In fact, since Petty's last victory in 1984, which went to Mike Curb, the famous number '43 'car has three wins, two with Bobby Hamilton Sr. and one with John Andretti.
In late 1990, Kyle's son Adam was becoming a beautiful young racer. Many in the garage began comparing his grandfather Adam. Was 100 percent dedicated to racing. Unfortunately, his life ended too soon in a tragic accident while practicing for a Busch Series race in Loudon, New Hampshire, in April 2000. No one saw him at the time, but that was the beginning of the end Petty Enterprises. Adam always the hope that a Petty once again rise to the top.
Throughout the 2000s, Petty Enterprises has fallen more and more deep in the pack. Just five years ago, Petty Enterprises had three teams, now only have the '43 'and even that is not enough to attract a full-time sponsors.
In 2006, it seemed inevitable resurgence of Petty Enterprises, and signed that 2000 champion Bobby Labonte, and rehired Robbie Loomis. However, Labonte has remained in mid-pack.
Petty Enterprises and finally transferred to a store closer to the Charlotte area, the abandonment of its long home in the level of the Cross, North Carolina. In 2008, Boston Ventures, and the investment firm, bought a majority stake Petty Enterprises in the hope of leading the organization stratified again at the forefront. However, things have worsened. Kyle Petty was basically kicked to the curb and a sponsorship deal for the team of '45 'fell through. That all brought us to where we are today ... the debate about the decline Petty.
From concluded the 2008 season in Homestead, the incumbents are rarely associated with consecutive championship Jimmie Johnson was third. It was the possible merger of Gillett Evernham Motorsports and Petty Enterprises. The merger would allow the '43 'team to be absorbed by Gillett Evernham Motorsports. Meanwhile, the '45 'car would be eliminated.
Even at '43 'is still on track and is not the same as when was the car of Richard. It will be a jagged pill to swallow for Petty hardcore fans as well as traditional fans who cling to the old days.
Who would make the '43 'car? Petty Enterprises veteran Bobby Labonte released earlier this week, so it will probably be a newcomer as driver Reed Sorenson and AJ Allmendinger. While they are talented young drivers, they certainly have not earned the right to be in union with the number perhaps the most beloved car in NASCAR history.
Traditionalists were dismissed while they were already down, as the Wood Brothers operation announced that he will compete in twelve races in 2009.
The downfall of former href = "Http://www.nascapper.com/"> empires NASCAR is something that recalls the 1990s and early 2000s, when legendary car owners as Junior Johnson, Bud Moore and Junie Donlavey left the sport. Equipment owned by Bobby Allison and Cale Yarborough could not survive the 1990s.
Today, companies Petty and Wood Brothers have fallen on hard times. Poor economic conditions forced Dale Earnhardt, Inc. to merge with another team, and now identified as Earnhardt Ganassi Racing. Robert Yates Racing Yates Racing became in 2008, and appears to be under the umbrella of Roush Fenway Racing. They have struggled to obtain sponsors full time since M & M's to the left for Joe Gibbs Racing. As the name of Yates is still in the building, and the '28 'car is back, I feel what he did a decade ago.
Let's hope that when the 43 hits the track in February 2009, is still Petty blue dress with the same number of recognized sources.
